march thirty one: in honor of gil scott heron

In honor of all the poets out there. On this day, I hope you all will take the time to recognize the passing of one of the greats who helped to usher in the true spirit of The Black Arts Movement, the late great, Gil Scott-Heron. He truly influenced my own poetic form  and here is a poem I wrote in his honor:

In Honor of  a Revolutionary

If you are a real poet

you know exactly who he is

if you are true to your craft

you recognize his style and the movement he ushered in

a movement unto himself, he moved me,

moved Black

and he started a revolution that definitely would not be televised.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron
